There are many harmful chemicals present in our daily lives. They are present in the food we consume, the products (e.g. cleanser) we use everyday. Well, from now on I'm going to start using products are made up of natural ingredients.

I read this magazine Choices February 2006 edition. There was an article that states the harmful effects of certain common chemical present in skin-care products that we are using.

Propylene Glycol
- Used in many facial masks for its solvent and water-binding properties.
- Mildly irritating and may cause allergic reactions
- Can damage cell membranes, causing dry skin, rashes and surface damage

Fragrance/Perfume
- udrf got aesthetic purposes in skin-care products due to scent.
- Made up of hundreds of chemicals, making identification of a single chemical difficult.
- Some of these chemicals can lead to allergies

Triethanolamine
- A stabiliser used in facial masks to guarantee an appropriate shelf life.
- Can cause irritation to eyes, skin, respiratory tract; cough, sore throat; asthma and allergic contact dermatitis (not common).

Other ingredients
- Exotic ingredients such as Vit E, aloe vera and chamomile extracts may be added to enhance the value of the product with minimal or no therapeutic outcome.
- Some of these ingredients such as Vit E have been documented to cause contact dermatitis.

Well, I regret buying 2 tubes of Za cleanser recently (for your information Za contains Vit E and minerals). Sigh, shouldn't have bought it just because there was a sale at Watsons! =(

Anyway, I discovered a natural brand today! The name of the brand is "Himalaya Herbals". I bought 2 of its products - Gentle Face Wash Cream and Gentle Exfoliating Walnut Scrub. They contain natural ingredients and no harmful chemicals, no animal testing as well as it is soap-free!I tried it just now and I feel it is really much better than Za - leaves the skin smoother and you wont have to worry about all the harmful chemicals! =) Going to get other stuff from their skin-care line!!!! Their products looks natural enough (by the colour and smell of their products).

Here's the website of the company: http://www.himalayahealthcare.com/products/himalayaherbals.htm#c

Are parabens (ethyl-methyl-butyl-propyl) safe when used on the skin?
Source: www.health-report.co.uk/parabens.htm

Chemicals from underarm deodorants and other cosmetics can build up inside the body, according to a study. British researchers have found traces of chemicals called parabens in tissue taken from women with breast cancer. While there is no evidence parabens cause cancer, the scientists have called for the use of parabens to be reviewed. The cosmetics industry insists that parabens, which are used as preservatives and are approved for use by regulators, are safe.

Dr Philippa Darbre and colleagues at the University of Reading carried out tests on samples of 20 different human breast tumours. Writing in the Journal of Applied Toxicology, they say they found traces of parabens in every sample.

Their tests suggested the chemicals had seeped into the tissue after being applied to the skin.
"This is the first study to show their accumulation in human tissues," said Dr Darbre. "It demonstrates that if people are exposed to these chemicals (parabens), then the chemicals will accumulate in their bodies."

Next time when you're buying either skin-care products or soap, etc, please look at the ingredients of these products. It's up to you to believe this study; however isn't it better to be safe than sorry rite? =)

Wow, I didnt noe that I was so independent in their opinion! hahaha~ Well, I think I know the reason. Because my goal in life now is to study hard and quickly graduate from university. And I think I'm the kind who can self entertain myself and wont feel bored without friends. I can jolly well stay at home for many days without getting bored. Maybe cos when I'm bored I will go to sleep or go online. I'm INDEPENDENT! CK, better learn from me huh!

Here are some recipes for homemade masks! You dont need to spend so much money on facial mask every month! Here's just some of them:

Good for oily skin

Yogurt Facial Mask
- Apply natural unflavored yogurt adding honey and/or oatmeal, if desired.

Lemon and Egg Facial Mask
- Squeeze half a lemon and mix the juice with one beaten egg white.
- Apply to face avoiding the area around the eyes.
- Leave on your face overnight or if during the day, for about 15 minutes.
- Rinse with warm water.

Soothing, cleansing and moisturising face mask

Banana Facial Mask
- Banana is also wonderful as an anti-wrinkle treatment.
- Mash 1/4 banana until very creamy.
- Spread all over face and leave for 15-20 minutes before rinsing off with warm water followed by a dash of cold.
- Gently pat dry.

A very good remedy for pimples

Apple and Honey Mask
- A facial mask of grated apple mixed with a little honey is an excellent remedy for pimples.

Removes dead skin

Papaya Facial Mask
- A fresh mashed papaya applied as a face mask removes dead, flaky skin.

Have FUN!!!!

I did an marketing article analysis a week before. It was on a topic of Chinese women becoming more n more attracted to skincare and cosmetics. There is this skin care product that is actually more expensive than GOLD!!!!! OMG...

Okay, so this article sort of triggered my interest for skin care... And I found this local beauty online forum - flowerpod. Anyway, i learnt about many products and managed to find some cheap and effective ones to share with u all!!! Hahaha! I'm so nice to share my beauty secrets with all of u!!! =)

What I always do weekly?
1. wash face at least 2 times a day (with cleanser of course)
2. apply rose water & witch hazel before applying my moisturiser (daily)
3. do cleansing mask once a week

Alright, here are the new products tt I have discovered just some days ago:

* Rose water, Witch hazel and rose water & witch hazel
- These act as cleanser and toner.
- Also, they help prepare ur skin for better absorption of ur moisturiser!!!!
- They can be found in Guardian at $3.40, $3.85 and $4.05 respectively.
- I have been using for 2 days and I seriously think that this is a good product! Makes my skin feels cleaner and feels smoother after application.

*Medicare mask @ Watsons ($1.95)
- This is an hydrating mask which comes in many different types (e.g. red wine, cucumber, collagen, etc).
- The packaging looks attractive and it's produced in Korea
- I have tried the red wine one, very relaxing and cooling. But i think it makes me drowsy and feel like sleeping after that! Haha~
- Read from the forum that we have to do both cleansing and hydrating mask to make our skin cleaner and moisturised. Ooooo~

*Detoxifying mask (Cleansing) @ Guardian ($2.50)
- Many people in e forum recommended this brand of mask.
- I forgot the brand of it but it can be easily found cos guardian dont carry a lot of different brands of mask.
- They said that one packet can be used for 2 - 3 times of application.
- Have yet to try this but i am going to try it soon!!!

Well, going to prepare for sch! Hope that my findings will be helpful to you people! =) Bye~
